What Are Properties and How Do I Use Them?

What Is a Property?

Properties are placed on top of Containers and Items to add information and functionality to your app. Properties are indicated with either a green or yellow icon color. You can mix and match these to customize your app with Properties, such as:

  • Image
  • Address
  • Contact Information
  • Podcast Link
  • Email
  • Address
  • Phone Number
  • FaceTime Number
  • Share Option
  • Text
  • User Notes
  • Video
  • Website Link

When Should I Use a Property?

You should use a Property when you want to add functionality to a Container or information to an Item. This could be contact information, links to external websites, text, videos or address information.

You can add multiple properties to an Item or Container, which allows you to create a robust page of content.

Adding and Removing Properties

To add a new Property, first navigate to the Item where you want to place the Property. Select onto the Item’s title to open it up. Then, in the Draggables window, select the Property you want to add. Hold and drag it over to your Item.

To remove a Property from your app, simply select the Property’s icon and drag it towards the app preview. As you do so, you will notice the app preview turns into a red trash can icon. If you drop the icon in this section, it will delete the Property from your app.

Types of Properties

There are several types of Properties you can add to your Items, Containers and Messages. Here is a list of the Property Draggables and how they will affect your app:

Add Contact: The Add Contact Draggable can be added to Items and will save email, title, and phone from the Item to the Contacts section of a user’s device. This draggable works best when added to the action bar.

Address: This draggable can be added to Items or Messages and allows users to take action to access turn-by-turn directions. Items with an Address property can be sorted by distance in a places container to use the Near-Me functionality and will also show as pins on the map view.

App Link: The purpose of the App Link Draggable is to allow app users to open another app on their device from a VisitApps app. This Draggable can be added to Items. Depending on the functionality of the other app, the App Link Draggable can launch a third-party app and even open to a specific section within that app.

Blankify: Blankify creates a rich text field on an Item that includes the ability to create fill-in-the-blank notes. By highlighting the words you want to make blank and selecting our Blankify functionality, it is easy to create interactive notes for your app users.

Email: This Draggable can be added to Items or Messages and allows users to take action to send an email to the email address listed.

FaceTime: This Draggable can be added to Items and allows users to take action to FaceTime the contact listed on the Item. The FaceTime property is part of certain packages. If you aren’t sure if FaceTime is included in your package, contact your Customer Success Manager by submitting a ticket to the Simpleview Client Portal.

Phone: This Draggable can be added to Items or Messages and allows users to take action to call the phone number that is listed.

Plain Text: This Draggable can be added to Items and is used to add text that has no formatting. Because the text will not include styling, we recommend using the Plain Text draggable for single lines of text only.

Podcast: The Podcast draggable can be added to Items and allows users to take action to listen to an MP3 file in the app.

Rich Text: This Draggable can be added to Items and is used to add text that can be formatted. Rich Text allows for bold, italicize, underline, strikethrough, bullets, and numbering to text. Rich Text works well with paragraphs of text or any text that needs to be formatted.

Share: This Draggable can be added to Items and allows users to take action to share information from the item to other apps, including Facebook, Twitter, Email, and SMS Text. The information that is shared is configured in the VisitApps MAS by selecting what properties on the item should be shared.

Timeframe: This Draggable can be added to Items or Messages and allows users to take action to save the event title and time to their calendar. The Timeframe Property allows you to set a start and end time for the item so users know the time of an event.

When the Timeframe Property is added to Items in an Events Container, the Items will sort chronologically based on the dates in the Timeframe Property.

You can change the icons associated with the Properties by double clicking on the icon. Once you double click an icon, you are also able to choose to hide the property row. This can be helpful if you are building out content to publish later.
