Accessing and Navigating Firebase Events

What are Events?

The Events section of the Firebase console is a collection of insights on what is happening in your app, such as user actions, system events, or errors.

Accessing the Events Section for Firebase Console

Open the side navigation menu on the Firebase Console. Select the ‘Events’ section to open it’s dropdown menu.


Under the ‘Analytics’ subcategory list, select ‘Events’.


You have the ability to filter the default data results using the ‘Filters’ option. From the top of your Events table, select the ’Add Filter’ button. This will open a box that allows you to choose from the Properties sections, values and displays filters currently selected. When you have selected the filter that best fits your needs, select ‘Apply’ and the Dashboard will refresh with the filtered results.

The default date range for the data from your dashboard is the last 28 days. To update these dates, select the dropdown caret from the calendar icon at the top of the Events table. This will allow you to select the time frame, or create a custom range, that best suits your needs.


Navigating the Data for Events

Events Data - By the Numbers

The Events table shows you the list of events that were triggered in the app by the users. The table details the following:


  1. Events: Collection of insights on what is happening in the app, such as user actions, system events, or errors.
  2. Parameter Reporting: Different attributes that can be assigned to each event.
  3. Show All: This will display all events recommended by Firebase.
  4. Dismiss: This will remove all events recommended by Firebase.
  5. Search: This allows you to search through your Event Data table.
  6. Event name: Please refer to the Analytic Term Glossary for the full list of events
  7. Count: The number of times an event was triggered.
  8. This column displays the event count percentage increase or decrease from the previous date range.
  9. Users: The number of users that triggered each event.
  10. This column displays the user percentage increase or decrease from the previous date range.
  11. Option to mark as conversion
    • Conversions are your most important events. Firebase automatically labels first_open as a conversion. You can label up to 15 other ‘Events’ as conversions for your Firebase project.
    • Marking an ‘Event’ as a conversion will help with attribution reporting later if you choose to create marketing campaigns or Google Ad campaigns.
  12. Download CSV: Export information from your Events table into a CSV file.


Set Event Parameters

In the row for the event you want to modify, click the three-dot symbol on the far right side enabling the set up parameter reporting menu.


You can then select a parameter you’d like to register from the list on the left-hand side. Be sure to set the ‘Type’ field to ‘Text’ or ‘Number’ (for numeric parameters, set the ‘Unit of Measurement’ field). When parameters are complete, select ‘Save’.

Please note that you are able to add up to 25 parameters per event and up to 100 custom parameters total for your app project (50 numeric and 50 textual). Firebase’s automatically added parameters and your newly added parameters will appear in the more detailed look, which is explained further below.

Events Detail View Page - By the Numbers

Select the Event Name to be brought to the Detail View page. Within the Detail View page, you can then toggle between the different events in the upper left-hand corner.

Within the ‘Events’ detailed view page, there are graphs and data detailing the following information that will be useful to you regarding your app.


  1. This graph displays the following
    • Event count: The number of times the event was triggered.
    • Users: The number of users that triggered the event.
    • Count per user: How often the event was triggered per user.
    • Value: Does not pertain to free apps.
  2. Events in the last 30 minutes: The number of times an event was triggered by a user in the last 30 minutes.
  3. User Engagement: Time users spend interacting with the app.
  4. Event demographics: The graph on top shows the percentage of male and female users that triggered the event.
    • Below the percentage of female and male users is the percentage increase or decrease of these users compared to the previous date range.
    • The bar graph on the right shows the percentage of male and female app users who triggered the event broken down further by age group.
  5. Events per session: This graph displays the number of times the event was triggered per user session.
  6. Event location: Lists the name of the county/region where the user is triggering the event.

You can also find recommendations of events from Firebase directly above the main ‘Events’ table summary table. These recommendations from Google are based on your app category chosen when submitted to the app stores. Please notify your VisitApps Client Success Manager if you would like to add a recommended event.
